O mais amplo estudo sobre o tema, conduzido de 1987 a 1999 pelo Reino Unido e atualizado em 2006, acompanhou o aproveitamento escolar de dois grupos de 90 crian\u00e7as com s\u00edndrome de Down \u2013 o 1\u00ba grupo em escola regular e o 2\u00ba grupo em escola especializada. Os resultados do estudo demonstram que crian\u00e7as com s\u00edndrome de Down aprendem <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mais<\/span><\/strong> e <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">melhor<\/span><\/strong> em <strong>ambiente inclusivo<\/strong>, sobretudo em \u00e1reas essenciais \u00e0 independ\u00eancia funcional do indiv\u00edduo como comunica\u00e7\u00e3o (oral e escrita) e habilidades acad\u00eamicas (incluindo leitura, escrita e aritm\u00e9tica).<\/p>\n<p>Com base nos resultados desse estudo e em respeito \u00e0 Conven\u00e7\u00e3o sobre os Direitos das Pessoas com Defici\u00eancia das Na\u00e7\u00f5es Unidas, incorporada ao ordenamento jur\u00eddico brasileiro com equival\u00eancia de emenda constitucional (Decreto No6.949\/2009), o F\u00f3rum Nacional de Educa\u00e7\u00e3o Inclusiva[1] e a Federa\u00e7\u00e3o Brasileira das Associa\u00e7\u00f5es de S\u00edndrome de Down[2] defendem a educa\u00e7\u00e3o universal para pessoas com defici\u00eancia, transtornos globais do desenvolvimento e altas habilidades\/superdota\u00e7\u00e3o em escola comum da rede regular de ensino.
