On 3 December, persons with disabilities around the world, UN representatives, civil society<\/p>\n
organisations and the general public will come together to celebrate International Day of Persons<\/p>\n
with Disabilities (IDPD). The 2015 event marks 9 years since the landmark Convention on the Rights<\/p>\n
of Persons with Disabilities was approved in New York and more than 20 years of IDPD celebrations.<\/p>\n
This year, under the theme “A Day for All”, UN agencies and disability advocacy organizations in<\/p>\n
Geneva are hosting a series of events to showcase progress made around the world in advancing the<\/p>\n
rights of persons with disabilities and inclusion, and to recognize and celebrate persons with<\/p>\n
disabilities as a manifestation of diversity in our societies.<\/p>\n

Live testimonies and experience on the deeper benefits of\u00a0sports\u00a0on individuals and society will be<\/p>\n
heard. It is an occasion to discuss how sports\u00a0can play a significant factor for inclusion and positive<\/p>\n
role in society of persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n

10:30-12:00 –\u00a0International Labor Organization (ILO): Open debate\u00a0Challenging stereotypes in the<\/p>\n
workplace<\/p>\n
Discussion with Spanish actor Pablo Pineda on stereotypes faced by persons with disabilities in the<\/p>\n
workplace. Mr. Pineda received the San Sebastian International Film Festival\u2019s \u201cConcha de Plata\u201d<\/p>\n
award as best actor of 2009 for his leading role in the movie \u201cYo Tambi\u00e9n\u201d (\u201cMe too\u201d). He is also the<\/p>\n
first student with Down syndrome in Europe to obtain a university degree. Mr. Pineda is also<\/p>\n
connected to Fundaci\u00f3n Adecco in Spain. Adecco is one of the 11 multinational companies that<\/p>\n
signed the\u00a0ILO Global Business and Disability Network Charter\u00a0on promoting the inclusion of<\/p>\n
disabled persons in the world of work.<\/p>\n
