G3ict, the Global Initiative for Inclusive ICTs, is pleased to make available a free on-line copy of “The Accessibility Imperative: Implications of the Convention on the Right of Persons with Disabilities for Information and Communication Technologies” in both accessible Pdf and DAISY format to all GPDD members. For those using a DAISY format, please note that this edition also includes the integral text of the Convention.
“The Accessibility Imperative” is the first publication offering a comprehensive overview of the many implications of the dispositions of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities for ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) adopted by the General Assembly on December 13, 2006, signed by 129 states as of May 13, 2008, ratified by 25 and enforceable since May 3rd, 2008. It is also the first attempt made to present in one comprehensive volume the challenges and opportunities of implementing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in matters of accessibility of Information and Communication Technologies.
“The Accessibility Imperative” was developed based upon the proceedings of the first Global Forum of G3ict, the Global Initiative for Inclusive ICTs, held at the United Nations headquarters in New-York on March 26, 2007. It presents the perspective of multiple stakeholders from all regions of the world and from a variety of backgrounds: industry, policy makers, international institutions, academia, and non-governmental organizations representing persons living with disabilities. Additional editorial content was contributed to G3ict and included in this first edition from meetings held in Russia, Korea, and the United States during the spring of 2007.
